“At one point, you’re gonna be the one driving and a police officer is gonna pull you over. Cause they can, so they will. When that happens, what are you gonna do?”

February 26, 2012, Florida. A 17 year old Black boy wearing a hoodie leaves a 7/11 carrying a bag of Skittles and an iced tea. He never makes it home. Our Fathers, Sons, Lovers and Little Brothers invites us to enter the world of an infamous teen, relive his last moments, and face the intricacy of his dance into the afterlife.

Developed at the Banff Centre for the Arts Playwright’s Lab in partnerhip with Alberta Theatre Projects as part of their Theatre for Young Audiences focus, Our Fathers, Sons, Lovers and Little Brothers explores how Black youth negotiate safety in an anti-Black world.

bento box theatre

Theatre tailor-made to your tastes and needs, just like a bento box. Bento Box Theatre is your organization’s chance to use art as a learning tool. Does your school have a particular issue you want to discuss such as racism, cultural appropriation, islamophobia, or homophobia? You pick the topic. We negotiate a budget that suits your needs. We author a 20-30 minute show based on those themes, followed by a talkback or workshop. Your school can make this intimate amongst a few classes or, to share the load of the budget, invite a few schools to watch the show as well. You choose.
Where: Toured to your school
When: At your school at a mutually decided weekday time during the school year
Cost: $1000-5000 depending on your budget to pay for playwright/actor fees, rehearsals and production
