playGROUND

b current would like to experiment with you. playGROUND is a bid to flip the script by decentering it in the development process. We want you to bring a text in the public domain, a novel, non-fiction, fragments of writing into our rehearsal space and, instead of interpreting and illustrating the text, we want you to create a new stage narrative. Take a classic (or a non-classic) and deconstruct it radically. We are interested in your bold ideas, directorial concepts and your take on production and the staging of it.

There is more than one story in a show. There is the story of the text. The story the lighting tells. The story all aspects of theatre tell their own story and, layered on top of each other, they can convey a rich offering.  We are interested in you thinking critically about every aspect of theatre. Rather than interpreting and illustrating the text, we want you to create a new stage narrative.

For the inaugural year of this experiment, we have commissioned one process. We have a second slot open to competition.
