Conversations Across Borders: A Symposium on Black Theatre in the US and Canada

  • University of Toronto’s Jackman Humanities institute (map)

What happens when we trace the lines connecting Black theatre-making across the US-Canada border? Conversations Across Borders brings together leading artists, scholars, and cultural leaders for a day of dialogue exploring the shared histories, distinct realities, and future possibilities of Black theatre on both sides of the border.

The day features two roundtable discussions with panelists including Djanet Sears, Faedra Chatard Carpenter, Naila Keleta-Mae, Cheryl Thompson, Kaja Dunn, Lisa Karen Cox, and Danielle Howard, followed by a keynote conversation between Mumbi Tindyebwa Otu, Artistic Director of Obsidian Theatre, and Hana S. Sharif, Artistic Director of Arena Stage. The symposium closes with a staged reading presented by BCurrent performing arts.
