WHEEL OF THE YEAR WALKS
Eight Toronto neighbourhoods
Eight (sets of) Toronto artists
Eight walks with sound mapping
& spatial audio technology.
Starting on the 1st of November, and every six weeks, Torontonians and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a 30-minute walk guided by the imagination of Toronto artists.
The Wheel of the Year is a cycle of seasonal festivals timed around the solstices, equinoxes and four midway points between the astronomist phenomena. Year Walks are an ancient form of divination whereby walkers go on long journeys looking for clues to the future in the environment around them.
Black and Brown artists will take listeners through an audio experience mapped on their smartphone. The Walks will vary in content from the personal to the observational, from the imaginative to the fantastical. Different Walks will make use of different aspects of the technology but you do not need technical knowledge to use the app. All you need is a smartphone and the will to be transported and grounded through a sonic experience created by b current artists.
Come and explore the possibilites of this technology. Depending on where you live, you might have the chance to explore your own neighbourhood or, better yet, you have a year to explore eight neighbourhoods guided by some of the most exciting artists in Toronto.
